Why I Support Ron Paul for President

Taxes

First, Ron Paul is the only limited government, lower taxes candidate. He has never voted to increase taxes and desires to cut government spending and taxes needed to support the spending. You cannot increase government (whether it is "infrastructure" as used by the Big Spenders, or transfer payments and subsidies,) and expect to lower taxes.

Free Trade
Ron Paul supports real free trade not more governmental organizations such as NAFTA, GATT, CAFTA, etc. Free trade is simple... we won't tax imports and other countries do not tax our exports.

War and Foriegn Policy
The war in Iraq was sold to us with false information. The area is more dangerous now than when we entered it. We destroyed a regime hated by our direct enemies, the jihadists, and created thousands of new recruits for them. We have no business making "regime changes" and trying to knock down or prop up other governments. We are not and can never be the policemen of the world.

Personal Liberty
The biggest threat to personal liberty is the government. We must limit the ability of the government to collect and store data about citizens' personal matters. Every government agency restricts individual choice. We need to cut back on government and increase personal freedom. The Constitution has a very limited role for the Federal government. Washington has no business being involved with education, abortion, religion, race relations, housing, etc. These are the rights left to the individuals and the states.

Yes, Ron Paul CAN WIN
The so-called "practical" political commentators say that Ron Paul can't win so we should unite behind a "winner" even if we do not support their views. This is the old "unite for unity" trap and is akin to Machiavelli's "the end justifies the means" argument. Let's vote for the best person...Ron Paul for President in 2008!

Bill Collectors Cannot threaten Suit as a Scare Tactic

A bill collector who cries wolf, making idle threats about how it could file lawsuits or refer a case to an attorney without intending to pursue either avenue, has more to worry about than not being taken seriously by debtors.

According to the Philadelphia-based 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, empty assertions could leave the debt collector on the hook for damages and attorney fees under the Fair Debt Collections and Practices Act. That’s because the act prohibits "false and misleading statements" from debt collectors, a standard that must be judged from the perspective of the least sophisticated debtor

The Brown v. Card Service Opinion details the limits on bill collectors.

FTC Gets Injunction against "Free Gift Card" scammers

The Federal Trade Commission is enforcing a temporary injunction against telemarketers who offer free gift cards to get consumers to give out their bank account information.

In the so-called "Wal-Mart shopping spree scam," the telemarketers allegedly cold-called consumers and promised them gift cards, "shopping sprees," movie passes and gas vouchers they say are worth $200 to $500, then asked consumers to pay a small shipping and handling fee in order to collect consumers' bank account data. The telemarketers then coerced consumers to buy memberships in purported discount-buying programs, the FTC charges.

The FTC's complaint, filed Feb. 28 in federal district court in Los Angeles, also says the defendants called reluctant consumers repeatedly until they bought memberships, and wouldn't let consumers cancel those memberships.

The temporary injuction prohibits the defendants from making misrepresentations to consumers and from engaging in deceptive or abusive telemarketing practices. It also freezes their assets and appoints a temporary receiver over the corporate defendants.

Bell South pays $16.5 million for stealing ideas from Call Center BellSouth has been ordered to pay $16.5 million to two telemarketing firms for hiring them to increase its small-business clientele and then improperly firing them after copying their marketing techniques. The suit alleged fraudulent inducement, negligent representation, breach of contract and tortious interference with a business relationship. The Plaintiffs also accused BellSouth of using an extremely vigorous motion tactic to try to "exhaust" them into going away. Click here for full article.
